Biography of Jacob Felländer

Born in Stockholm, Sweden 1974 Jacob Felländer studied fine art and graphic design ar Flagler College in St. Augustine Florida and at San Diego State University.

He began experimentring with landscape photography in the late 1990s using relic film cameras to capture multiple exposures in a single image Since 2004 Felländer had been on a constant quest to challenge every definition of what an image is.

Debuting in  2007 at Galerie Aronowitch in Stockholm, Sweden,  Felländer is globally recognized for his large- scale abstract photographs of cityscapes and landscapes, captured around the world.

In 2011 Felländer exhibited ”I want to live close to you” at Fotografiska in Stockholm. He travelled around the world´s most densely populated cities over twelve days, capturing the entire world on a single, multi-exposed negative.

In 2012 Felländer began to investigate the use of drawing, painting and sculpture - challenging their relationship with photography. Hamiltons Gallery presented these works in ”Pentimento” in London 2013, at, Grand Palais in Paris 2014  and in Los Angeles at Paris Photo, 2014.
Camera Work, Berlin presented ”Sticking to my Guns” 2014 in Berlin and 2015 at Grand Palais in Paris.

In 2016  Fotografiska Museum presented his extensive work ”How to Unlock a Portal”. A truly groundbreaking project containing Virtual Reality where Felländer constructed the first art metaverse. The show also included 3D printed sculptures, painting, music, architecture and photography.

In 2017-18 ”How to Unlock a Portal” was shown as an extensive solo show at MOCA Miami, opening Art Basel.

In 2020 Felländer launched his augmented reality project ”The Great Escape”. The project included large-scale augmented reality exhibitions,  a global creativity training system with the United Nations, a  fashion collaboration with H&M and an extensive music collaboration with five Grammy Award winning musicians.

The mission with ”The great escape” is to democratize creativity and to inspire the next generation to start their own creative journeys. Felländer’s works are held in a number of prestigious private and public collections, including the Fotografiska Museum, MOCA Miami, and the collection of President Clinton.
